Implementing our curriculum

Key Stage 3

Year 7 begins with every student at the same point as very rarely will they have studied Drama as a discrete subject. They are introduced to group dynamics and basic skills of Mime, Physical Character, and Freeze Frame. These skills are then used to explore units of work covering topics such as bullying and acceptance, building tension, impact of evacuation, and Shakespeare’s The Tempest, picking up skills such as monologue, soundscape, the idea of conventions and being in-role.

In Year 8 We develop storytelling skills, adapting stories to the stage, engaging with script writing before exploring narrative through improvisation, before performing script. We watch a performance as an example of adaptation and write a response to the production.

In Year 9 we develop understanding of staging through stage configurations and exploring trauma through a reportage style of Drama. We look at Greek Theatre and Protest, establishing understanding of Genre and style. Before tackling ‘Noughts and Crosses’ a play text with challenging themes of race and relationships.
