Curriculum Intent and Rationale

To develop a deep understanding of the ways in which digital technologies work and can be used, and ready our pupils to lead a fulfilling, productive and creative life in the digital age. 

Implementing our curriculum

Key Stage 3

Transitioning from many different feeder schools, Yr7 is about setting our baseline expectations, identifying and closing any gaps in understanding students may have across digital literacy, ICT’s use of software and the abstract concepts of Computer Science.   Topics in Yr7 include “Understanding My Computer and using it safely”, “Presenting on the WWW”, “Scratching the surface of Algorithmic Thinking through Game Design”, 

Key Stage 4

Specification: OCR J277

This two year program covers the underlying theory of how computers work physically as well as how we can save aspects of the world in a recoverable binary form.  This is undertaken through interactive classroom discussions, slideshow presentations, video, textbook and worksheet support, problem solving and ultimately through coded languages; most typically Python.

Students are encouraged to take an active interest outside of lessons through suggestions for the DEER program, competitions such as the Bebras and OUCC challenges

Key Stage 5

Specification: OCR H446

Building on the KS4 provision, Our two year program leads pupils to greater depth of understanding of KS4 study while extending their programming paradigms to include OOP and integrating this with RDBMS through SQL and DDL/DML principles.  There is also an opportunity to complete an in depth study into a programmatic problem that interests students, leading to their NEA submission.
